claire & drew
- context
- a ~250-guest december wedding at withinsodo, an industrial brick-and-steel warehouse in seattle. the run of show included a mario kart tournament, a couple’s race inside that program, a debut dj set by drew, who had never djed, and a closing live hardware set by two of his friends.
- constraint
- the venue prohibited haze. without atmospheric particulate, lasers, moving heads, and beam effects lose most of their impact, so the room needed a no-haze lighting plan. it also needed multi-zone audio for the game program, a booth a first-time dj could step into mid-night, and a clean handoff to a live act at the end.
- intervention
we built the room around warm architectural washes: amber and purple on the brick, uplighting on the steel columns, and dmx dance-floor washes that grew with the run of show. the audio system covered ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, the tournament, and the first-dance race without breaking the room into separate events.
the booth was designed around a first-time dj booth: stable enough for drew to step into, flexible enough for joey to run the light show underneath him. for the closing act, joey set up the i/o, handled the live sound engineering, and carried the transition into a live-act handoff.
- outcome
- the mario kart tournament became the couple’s first-dance frame. drew’s debut set landed inside the same booth system, then the night handed off to live hardware without stopping.
- they said
- “john and joey oversaw the music and stage lighting, and god damn did they do a good job. all of our music friends kept asking about and complimenting the two of you!”drew & claire
