sonic switchyard is a seattle sound practice led by joey frostad. collaborators join according to each project’s musical and technical needs.
joey leads the practice and is responsible for every build. sara consults on selected projects. colin and john join live events for djing and technical support when the work calls for them.
joey
joey frostad leads sonic switchyard and is responsible for every build.
he designs sound and lighting systems, djs, handles live sound, and coordinates collaborators from planning through strike. his work spans weddings, private events, performances, and site-responsive installations.
joey holds a doctorate in health metrics from the UW. that training carries into the work through system planning, documentation, and close attention to the assumptions and constraints inside a brief.
outside sonic switchyard, he analyzes health systems and performs with the stalk, an improvisational vocal techno duo built around live hardware and voice.
sara
sara silva consults on selected projects, with a focus on cohesion, pacing, participation, and the emotional conditions of a room.
she reviews how people enter a space, what a project asks them to do, and where sound, light, objects, and instructions compete for attention.
sara is a psychiatric nurse practitioner. that work informs how she approaches consent, thresholds, and participation.
she co-created after the tone, a cabin at the end of the line, and the signal, contributing to their visual, narrative, and participatory systems.
colin
colin quinn joins selected live events for djing and technical support.
his musical background spans piano, voice, and djing. on a build, he supports the booth, the run of show, and client communication where an additional operator is needed.
colin trained in the whole brain engineering program at northwestern university and works as an outdoor product design engineer.
outside music and product design, he renovates his home in south seattle and spends time on pacific northwest trails and gravel roads.
john
john tilelli joins selected live events for djing and technical support.
he is a jazz-trained trumpeter, producer, and audio engineer. those skills carry into booth support, live sound, and transitions between djs and performers.
john also works as a data scientist at seattle children’s. he co-created the sound and lighting program for claire and drew’s wedding at withinsodo.
